Alsace

The Alsace is France's easternmost wine region. Mainly producing white wines. The vineyards lie in a narrow, elongated ribbon on the eastern slopes of the Vosges. Alsace wines are complex and refined from fresh dry with a light, pleasant acidity to aromatic slightly sweet with a matching long finish. Alsace wines have a good minerality in itself.

GrandCruStore's Alsace wines come from the winery Hubert Beck, a family business since 1596. It is now the twelfth generation of the family dedicating centuries of tradition and experience to the production of the wines.

The vineyards in the Alsace have a deep fertile soil, sometimes up to 6 meters, so that the roots of the vines have plenty of opportunity to search their nutrition in the mineral-rich soil. The roots indeed are forced to dig deep for their moisture as the Vosges absorb most of the moist westerly winds. The Alsace is a sunny and especially dry area with ideal conditions for viticulture.

In addition, the area is also very complex because of the geological diversity. The bottom has two cleavages in two directions, making lots of small pieces of very different soil yielded. Not only this contributes to the Alsace wines and their own recognizable style, but also to the typical regional grape varieties and the way they are made. Discover the pinot blanc, Riesling, Muscat, the Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris in our assortment.

The Alsace Grand Cru designation is only awarded to wines that meet strict quality criteria as field boundaries, low yields per hectare and special rules for working the vineyard. These wines are characterized by intense and complex aromas, and a powerful structure and a long finish. Grands Crus d'Alsace can, if well preserved, be kept at least 10 years. Hubert Beck makes his Grand Cru wines of the Frankstein vineyards around the village of Dambach-la-Ville, where he resides with his company.
